«Story Time»

Time: 15 minutes
Participants: 3–45

Most icebreakers are predictable. Participants share the same basic information that very few remember a day later. With this icebreaker you can shake things up a bit with some prompting help.

How it works

  • Have participants work in groups of three.
  • Have each participant pick a card at random.
  • Have participants introduce themselves one at a time.
  • They should start with their name (some things are still important even if shaking things up).
  • Then share the saying on their card to the group. The group has five minutes to react and discuss the motto: what it means to them, how it applies to their work, etc.
  • Each round lasts five minutes, then the next participant continues with their name and card.

Tips, tricks & more

  • The participant limit with this activity is based on the number of cards in the set. With more participants, you will need a second set of cards.
  • There are no set questions for participants to use; the idea is just to share what comes to mind. The questions above are just examples.
