Have you ever lost the feeling for the big picture while trying to puzzle out a process detail or a challenging bit of planning? Being able to take a step back in the middle of a strategy process to regain the perspective for the whole picture can be difficult – if not nearly impossible. That is why ISS Canal Services brought me in, to guide them in developing their new business strategy as they spun off from the ISS conglomerate to form iTS Canal Services and expand their business in Switzerland and beyond.

The Need:

The management team wanted someone external to guide them through the strategy devel-opment process to ensure a structured approach to exploring, validating, and crafting their 100-Day Strategy. The management team was particularly keen to ensure it remained purpose-driven and people-centered, the latter not only including the clients but, importantly, their em-ployees.

The Process:

We approached the project like a design thinking process: Explore, define, ideate, validate. We first took some time to explore what had been done and what were areas of opportunity. Then we used all the info collected to define a focus for the strategy moving forward and went into defining and validating the proposed strategy. Final efforts were then aimed at strengthening the company culture by establishing new company values and defining how to communicate and drive the new values throughout the company.


The Outcome:
At the end of their 100-Day Strategy, the management team had a solid basis for building on moving forward. Through a personalized and structured approach, the team came away with a robustly validated strategy, clear implementation goals, and a newly defined identity focused on culture and empowering their employees, whom they see as key to their success.
